Art Lead | Games
We’re looking for a driven and experienced Art Lead to translate the aesthetic of Kyoryu into a cohesive 3D pipeline. If you've got artistic flair, great communication and a mind for problem solving, this is the role for you. This is an opportunity to help define and establish the look of the Kyoryu world from the very beginning!
Responsibilities
- Work directly with our Art Director and leadership to translate the aesthetic of Kyoryu into a cohesive 3D pipeline.
- This is a hands-on leadership role. You will be expected to craft hero-level assets that set the bar for the rest of the team.
- Leverage 3D workflows that maximize visual impact within the constraints of real-time development.
- Provide clear, actionable feedback to our 3D team, fostering a culture of high-caliber craft and creative problem-solving.
- Partner with our Tech Artists to ensure Kyoryu runs as good as it looks, optimizing assets for Unreal Engine without sacrificing quality.
- Work with Production to estimate timelines and build out the roadmap for asset delivery, ensuring our milestones are met with precision.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in game dev, with at least one shipped title in a Senior or Lead capacity.
- Deep technical knowledge of UE5 (Lumen, Nanite, and World Partition experience is a huge plus).
- You should be comfortable moving between organic sculpting and complex hard-surface modeling.
- A portfolio that demonstrates an ability to handle both high-fidelity character/creature work and environmental storytelling.
- The ability to explain complex artistic concepts to non-art disciplines and a "team-first" mentality.
Pluses
- Experience in film/VFX pipelines or a deep understanding of cinematic storytelling lighting, and composition.
- Interest or proficiency in Maya, Blender, ZBrush, 3D Coat, or Houdini.
- A genuine love for dinosaurs and Japanese culture
Floating Rock’s offering:
- Chance to shape the future of Kyoryu from Day 1
- Work among professionals who push for excellence every day while having fun
- Visa support to live in New Zealand
- Competitive NZ salary and long-term job security
- Hybrid work (at least 60% on premise in Wellington studio)
